royal deeside Deeside has a feeling of the ancient and seems to epitomise the essence of Scotland. It's been good to venture deep inland and be faced with the plateau and valleys surrounding the River Dee. I have been deeply inspired by not only the visual but also the wildlife, history and folklore.

From the usual absence of trees in my paintings there is now an inclusion of a backdrop of deep forest. My icon white cottage has been replaced by stone ones and tower houses and with a little tongue in cheek my Keeper of the Cottage series has been joined by the Keeper of the Castle!

I can't help but feel this landscape echoes the weave of the tartans - instinctively my colours for these paintings have changed.
